Course Topic
Developmental biology is the study of how a genome gives rise to multiple cell types that appear at specified times and are organized in three-dimensional patterns. As such, it is an integrative science that has traditionally drawn heavily on anatomy, embryology, genetics and cell biology with emphasis on gene regulatory and cell-cell signaling mechanismss. Developmental biology is fundamentally tied to our understanding of evolutionary mechanisms as well as pathological and disease states.

Course organization
Although the course is broad in scope, it is intended to provide background for several key concepts and highlight experimental approaches commonly used to answer questions in developmental biology. We will have discussion sessions (Wednesday) along with the didactic lectures (Monday).

Course grade will be assigned based on participation.  There will not be a test associated with the course.
