Jeroen Roose, PhD, is Professor and Vice Chair in the Department of Anatomy at the University of California, San Francisco. His research seeks to understand how multicellular interactions govern tissue function, adaptation, regeneration, and disease. His laboratory combines patient-derived organoids, advanced molecular profiling, computational analysis, and experimental models to investigate the mechanisms that regulate cell fitness, stem cell behavior, immune responses, and cancer progression.
Beyond his laboratory research, Dr. Roose builds collaborative scientific infrastructure that accelerates biomedical discovery. He co-founded the UCSF Bakar ImmunoX Initiative, established the UCSF Disease-to-Biology Organoid Core, and co-founded the AutoImmunoProfiler program, bringing together clinicians, basic scientists, engineers, computational biologists, and industry partners to advance human biology research.
His research has been continuously supported by the NIH, foundations, philanthropy, and industry collaborations, and has led to discoveries in cell signaling, stem cell biology, tumor biology, immunology, and organoid technology. As Professor and Vice Chair of Anatomy, he is committed to fostering interdisciplinary science, mentoring the next generation of scientists, and developing collaborative research environments that bridge fundamental biology with translational medicine.
